Overcoming procrastination can be quite a challenge. Here I have shared some techniques to help you stop procrastinating!

Get the Hard and Tough Jobs Done Before Anything Else.

By doing this your self-esteem will be boosted, and you will feel like you have achieved something. This will also have the roll on effect that other tasks will seem pretty easy to do.

When making a to-do list, make sure you follow everything you’ve written chronologically by listing the most important things to be done on top and ticking them off as you go along. Not only will this be more organized but it will be easier for you to follow and focus on what’s next rather than choosing what you think you should do on the list.

Don’t Wait for the Right Mood at The Right Time.

Work is work that’s why it’s called such. Waiting for a certain rush of adrenaline to tackle your duties is dangerous to your productivity.

Stop Being a Perfectionist.

Self-confidence is tied up with doing your tasks well. However some people get a bit carried away. Because they feel they cannot do a task perfectly they delay it indefinitely. This will not help with overcoming procrastination!

Perfectionists often perform poorly due to being obsessed about not messing up. The perfectionist gives themselves a hard time about messing up, sets unreal deadlines, and views their work in a negative light. All this causes perfectionist to have a big mental barrier, which stops them from getting the job done!

Peak performers aren’t perfectionists. They get the job done in less time because they’re less worried about messing up.

If you are a perfectionist, have a good look at your priorities. Take a few small steps. Make an action plan, include realistic deadlines. Start your day early so you have time to get things done, review and make adjustments. Keep a relaxed attitude and you will be able to do your best.

Get Moving.

If you’re still staring at your computer screen and are clueless about how to start a task – physically doing something as simple as standing up can make a lot of difference. Doing a physical activity is highly recommended for everyone to increase efficiency especially ones that are constantly surrounded by pressure.

Go for a walk whenever you can. Clean your desk and get rid of clutter. This creates a forward motion that will keep things going. Doing something rather than slacking builds momentum and jump-starts you up for your project.

A little procrastination is fine. But some people get really pulled into the procrastination cycle. This can lead to chronic depression. If you are trying to overcome procrastination – be realistic. You are unlikely to stop procrastinating overnight. There is no quick fix. To be successful you need to develop a routine that works for you.
